Artist’s  Statement

My mixed-media piece, Freedom On Fire,  uses the American flag to show that our power to help the nation of Tibet has been greatly reduced by our owing the People’s Republic of China hundreds of billions of dollars. The monk cries out in vain. Our country is being singed around the edges, as the fire of our economic recklessness increasingly destroys our ability to promote freedom around the world.

An Unusual Tour

When I submitted this piece to the Flag Day Show at the Alamo Danville Artists' Society (ADAS) Gallery in Danville, CA in June of 2008, their board refused to allow me to show it, explaining that "some members of the community" might be offended. Fortunately, the pastor of Peace Lutheran Church, also in Danville, allowed me to exhibit it there for several months. I also displayed it on August 8th, 2008 (the first day of the Beijing Olympics) at Hallidie Plaza in San Francisco, and its reception was overwhelmingly supportive.
